What We’re Thankful For in 2021

11/23/21

Uncanny Update

There is one month left in 2021. ONE. MONTH. LEFT.

Marveling at how quickly time passes is practically a requirement at any office job — “How is it Thursday already?!” — and to be honest, none of us should be surprised that it’s Monday… every Monday

But after the past year and 11 months we’ve all had, who can blame us? Time really does feel like it’s flying by. As the great Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” (Look him up, Gen Zers.)

We’re taking Ferris’s advice to heart by stopping for a moment to think about what we’re thankful for this year.

Science

Reason number one we’re thankful for science? The fact that a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine was developed in less than a year.

Sure, its speedy creation may have made some people hesitant to take it. (This handy infographic explains how it happened so quickly, if you’re interested.) But we think the benefits of getting vaccinated far outweigh any initial doubt.

Like not dying, for example. But also hugging friends and family again, feeling less stressed about being near strangers, or getting back to things we enjoyed pre-quarantine. The vaccine has made that all possible again.

Face masks

As thankful as we are for the vaccine, we’re just as thankful for the face masks that helped us cope up to this point. They’re still helping many of us stay and feel safe, from people who are high-risk to kids who aren’t able to get vaccinated yet to those of us who want to be extra careful in public.

Face masks come with a ton of other benefits, too, like:

  • Not being told to smile by strangers; i.e., clueless old men (if you’re a woman)
  • Not being judged for your facial expressions (if you’re a woman)
  • Not being hit on while you’re shopping, working out, walking on the street, or just doing your job (if you’re a woman)
  • Not having to put on makeup in order to be taken seriously or “look presentable” at work (if you’re a woman, though makeup can certainly be worn by anyone)

Can you tell we’re a bit bitter about the crap women have had to face for like, ever? Face masks helped us feel free to be ourselves and protected us from other people’s germs. We’re not alone in thinking this, either. Props to this person who thinks of her mask as “a kind of invisibility cloak.”

Thank you for everything you do for women, face masks.

Amazing clients

We have to give a shout out to our awesome roster of clients at Uncanny Content. First off, our business literally would not survive without y’all.

But when you make things easier on us by taking care of your responsibilities, respecting deadlines, trusting our advice, and trusting the process, we love you all the more for it. You remind us why we got into this biz in the first place.

To top it off, so many of you have been kind and understanding when shit hit the fan in our personal lives. If you’re a client, you know that Latasha’s family had some absolute shit go down. A big thank you to clients for giving her encouragement, sending snacks and gifts, and for just letting her know that things can wait.

Other stuff we’re thankful for

We at Uncanny Content can go on and on about the things we’re grateful for in our lives, but here are just a few.
