Our Brand Values (and Why You Should Care)


Brand Voice

If you’re new to Uncanny Content, you might be wondering why you should hire us and what to expect when you work with us. Those are good things to ponder, if you ask us.

When you’re choosing a copywriter, content writer, or content creator of any form, you need to know that their values, work ethic, and standards align with your own. You should also know who you’re working with and how you’ll connect with them.

At Uncanny Content, we really do believe that content and copywriting aren’t just useful services. It’s how you communicate with your people, it’s how you show up in the world, and it’s what you create to make a difference.

While we could wax poetic about writing and the power of words all day long, we think it’s more important to share with you what you get when you work with us. We’d like to introduce you to our values… and we hope this encourages you to share your own.

Our top values

During our quarterly CEO days, we do an exercise that lets us check in with our values. Values are defined, in business and in life, as “a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important.”

These are the words we’ve chosen to reflect what’s important to us:

What you should know about our values

Our values haven’t really changed since the first time we did this exercise, which is interesting. However, there’s one thing that has changed in the last year: the organization of these values. When we first started, responsibility and mastery were at the top of our list.

Now, as we’ve built our client base and it’s full of amazing people who we’re truly excited to work for, those have shifted to the bottom of the list. They’re still super important to us, but we’ve realized that what makes our work meaningful and impactful aren’t just being good at what we do — it’s how we care about what we do.

What do our values mean to us?

As the lovely women at Being Boss say, values mean different things to different people. For one person, freedom may mean freedom to travel. For another person, it may mean freedom to not work for The Man.

That’s why we want to get uber-specific about what our values mean, so you know who you’re dealing with here.


In case you haven’t picked this up from us yet, there’s never a day when we aren’t fully ourselves. From our discovery calls to each piece of content we create for Uncanny, we are hellbent on being ourselves. This is where some people get it twisted, though. When we say we are authentic, we don’t just mean being true to our brand.

We are authentic to your brand voice and committed to your business. The same gusto with which we show ourselves here? That gets applied to your business and how you serve your people. We’ll make sure that whatever content or copy we touch, it reflects the authenticity and power of your brand.


Even if your brand doesn’t use humor in its language and tone, you’ll have a few laughs with us. We don’t take ourselves seriously (although we are always professional), and we believe that life is too short to not laugh at good memes.


This is where it starts to get a bit weird (just kidding). The truth is, we think words are magic. While we embrace the strategy, the format, and the purpose behind each piece of content we create, we also wholeheartedly believe that words matter. And when you have someone who cares that much about your writing… that’s where the magic starts to build.

We also chose magic as one of our values because we have felt firsthand just how much power comes from working with creatives and entrepreneurs who are committed to making a difference. You build your business because you believe in a better life, community, world… and we want to write about that ‘til the cows come home. That kind of connection can’t be faked.

Also note: Latasha is a bit “woo,” so the magic might come out in more literal magic ways, like tarot cards, crystals, and energy. Try not to be alarmed, she hasn’t cursed anything (yet).


Refer back to the last value: magic. We believe that collaborating with peers, experts, and business owners is the highest form of art. We help you bring your words to life, we help you promote your offers or services… but we also cheer each other on. We aren’t employed by our clients, we collaborate with them.

This is also where we tell you that, if you just want someone to check some writing tasks off your to-do list and not ask questions or give advice… you should probably find someone else. We are here to partner with you and to elevate your message together. If you want that, let us know.


We know our shit. Not only do we constantly invest in copywriting and content strategy education, but we also constantly communicate with other writers, marketing strategists, and experts who help us do better. We don’t mess around with our client’s content and copy. We want to make sure it’s the best it can be.

That also means we don’t ever drop a piece of content and expect you to accept it without question. Feedback and improvements are welcome. That’s also why we want to partner with you — because it’s never a one-and-done thing. Your content and copy are living things, and we want to make sure they never get stagnant.


There is something so comforting that comes with knowing you’re in good hands. We understand that giving up your content and copy to a “stranger” can be difficult, and feel really risky. We honor that trust by making sure you always feel heard, that your content and copy are reflective of your voice and your strategy, and that we help you reach your goals. That also means we provide content on time, so you’re never worried that your project will come to a halt.


While this is more of a personal value for the Uncanny team, we admire witty repartee and do our darndest to pack punch and personality into your copy. Wittiness is “a natural aptitude for using words and ideas in a quick and inventive way to create humor,” and you’ll find some sharp barbs and sassy comments flying in all of our team’s communications. This is also something we always look for when bringing a new writer or other expert onto our team — wit, sass, and sarcasm are a good gauge for how well someone will fit into our culture.


We are obsessive about your brand voice. We follow your strategy to a T. We believe that everything you have planned out and hope to create is possible, and we will work to bring it to life. We always say that our content/copy is “on time, on-brand, on-purpose.” Because why settle for less?

Why values matter

We hope you have enjoyed this viewing of “Uncanny Content’s Values.” While we know that in more “traditional” business settings, the goal is to get the work done and increase profit margins, we know that kind of business is going the way of the dodo bird.

We’re all watching business change — in real-time. People want to buy from companies that give a shit, and that support causes that are important to them. People want to start businesses that make a difference. And businesses want to work with other businesses and experts who will carry on the good work.
