Meet Josie, Project Manager At Uncanny Content

11/21/23

Uncanny Update

Hey there! Welcome back to our “Meet the People of Uncanny” series. So far you’ve learned about content writers Ashton, Jess, and Amanda as well as Lauren, our content strategist.

Next up is Josie, our favorite project manager and avid foodie.

The three words I (Valicia) would use to describe Josie are kind, creative, and detailed. Josie is an expert at keeping the backend of our business organized and efficient so we can stay on track to deliver stellar copy and content. And she does it all while having a great sense of humor (and having a killer stash of memes ready to go).

Josie helped me get oriented here at Uncanny in my first few weeks, so I especially loved getting to know more about her while working on this post. Now you get to learn more about Josie too!

State your full name, for the record:

Josephine Truong

Where do you live:

I’m constantly bouncing between Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, but my home base is currently La Jolla, CA.

We’re lucky enough to live minutes from the coast, so sometimes we’ll spontaneously go watch the sunset 🌅.

Who do you live with?

My bestie and partner, Sawyer.

Don’t forget pets:

No pets of our own yet unfortunately, but we love mooching off of our family members’ pets and going on walks to look at other people’s dogs. It’s not creepy.

What did you do before working with Uncanny?

I was an Account/Marketing Manager for a digital marketing agency for 4 years, and a Marketing/Project Manager in the mortgage industry for 2 years.

A note from Valicia: Josie is a total natural at project management, maintaining awareness of all the moving parts and also knowing what needs to happen for each project (hello, marketing experience!). We couldn’t do it all without her!

What’s your favorite movie? (We usually pick two.)

I am going to be a rebel and pick THREE.

  • The Hundred-Foot Journey (a cute movie about culture and food)
  • Spirited Away (or anything Studio Ghibli, let’s be real)
  • Crimson Peak (Guillermo slayed with this one)

What’s your favorite book?

I can’t just pick one, so you’re getting several.

  • The Shining by Stephen King
  • Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
  • And currently obsessed with any of Ashley Poston’s recent romances (The Dead Romantics and The Seven Year Slip)

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I want to rent a super expensive telephoto lens and capture photos of wildlife in Antarctica.

Who was your first crush? How did that end for you?

Probably Robin from Teen Titans. He’s not real so unfortunately that didn’t go anywhere.

A note from Valicia: My first crush was some hunk from some cheesy romance, so I can sorta’ relate here, Josie!

What’s your favorite part about your work with Uncanny?

I love talking about the most random and silly things in the Voxer group chat. It keeps my day interesting and fun!

What do you wish more people knew about the work you do?

Many, many, many businesses and organizations can benefit from a decent project manager (I’ve seen many that desperately need one…). When there’s overwhelming chaos, a project manager can Tetris all of the mess into something manageable for a team.

If your biz constantly feels out of whack, look into a project manager!

What’s the hardest part of the work you do?

It’s keeping track of the constant changes! Change is completely normal and expected, especially in our line of work. But trying to remember all of the moving parts for several dozen clients can get a wee bit hectic sometimes.😅

A note from Valicia: I literally said this same thing. Yet, you do it so well! See note above.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

  • Reading
  • Playing on my Nintendo Switch
  • Thinking of the next restaurant or cocktail bar I want to try, then going there and snapping a bunch of pics for my food Instagram
  • Planning my next trip with my over-the-top, color-coordinated spreadsheets
  • Taking pictures using my fancy camera that I am intimidated by

A note from Valicia: See! Only the best project managers use spreadsheets IRL.

What’s one goal you have for yourself in the next year (not related to work)?

I want to get Photoshop Lightroom and become decent at using it to edit photos! I’m not doing my camera any justice with my current methods. A good metaphor here is like if I had a $400 Le Creuset pot and only used it to boil water.

A note from Valicia: Josie says Le Creuset is basically a fancy French pot. You’re welcome! I *thought* I was a foodie too, but clearly only like to eat. Josie’s the real deal.

Do you have any secret talents or fun party tricks? (You will be asked to do these at a future team retreat)

I am unfortunately very untalented, but I’ll take cute candid pics of the team and the yummy food we eat together.

A note from Valicia: Sounds like an awesome talent to me!
