Uncanny Update

Hey y’all, Latasha here.

What you’re about to read is a note from our monthly newsletter, updated for our blog. (It’s called content repurposing 😉)

First off, I’d like to commend all of us for making it this far through 2020. It has not been easy.

On a personal note, I have been dealing with the quarantine and the pandemic in the only way an Enneagram 1 individual with a chronic condition can: with a lot of internet arguing, isolating, obsessive cleaning, dark humor, and panic attacks.

Now, with protests and riots all over the U.S. in the name of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and all the other people who have been killed simply for being black, I feel even more of my Enneagram 1 come out.

The need to research, to advocate for those in pain, to understand how my actions affect others, to understand how we all coexist together.

I write all of this not because it’s a bandwagon moment, but because it’s the exact opposite. Because we’re all in this together, and I want all of us to do better. It also means making my stance — and the stance of those who help me run this business — extremely clear.

This is an anti-racist brand. We will uphold anti-racist standards in our business, and we will push you to do the same.

If you’re on this list, it’s because you’re a business owner or agency counterpart, and you’ll need to be doing the same hard work I am. If you’re not into that, or don’t think you need to do the work, let’s talk. I bet I can convince you otherwise.

What’s on the docket for June

If you follow us on Instagram @uncannycontent, you know that my 30-day social media hiatus starts today. My wonderful team, including my writing associate Jess and my virtual assistant Jen, will be posting and engaging for the brand while I’m away.

You should also probably know that I’m slapping up my OOO autoresponder on June 5 til the morning of June 11th for a much-needed (but local) vacation. We’ll be relaxing on a wraparound porch for a few days, and the rest will be spent decompressing from what has been an absolutely insane 5 months.

But during my vacation and social media hiatus, I plan to read a metric fuck-ton of books and resources about anti-racism and my role in it. I also plan to continue self-isolating as much as I can, and supporting small businesses as we recover from the economic turmoil brought on by the Rona.

I plan on supporting my mother and her team of nurses, who are on the frontlines of the pandemic and who are still doing everything they can to care for the new COVID-19 cases as they come in.

I plan on having a lot of uncomfortable, face-to-face conversations with friends, family, and even clients about how our actions and inaction affect each other. I plan to write.
